Breaking the Silence was established in 2012, to offer a specialist, trauma-informed service for South Asian male survivors of trauma and abuse. We support in excess of 100 men per year, and a further 400 through our helpline. Therapeutic support is offered in English, Urdu and Punjabi.
We are now a national service, offering online therapy to a wider range of racially minoritised men from across the UK.
We are independently accredited in accordance with the Male Quality Standards; we have sat on various boards and advisory groups, including the Male Survivor Partnership and the CSA’s Improving Responses to Adult Victims and Survivors Programme, and the REACT network w for professionals working to tackle and respond to the sexual abuse of children of Asian, African, Carribean and racialised heritage communities.
We have been the beneficiaries of mainstream funding as well as the recipients of grants from international philanthropy organisations. We are fully accountable to our service users, through our UMMID Advisory Group.
We offer training on a range of topics for professionals and communities. Click here for more details.
As men from racialised communities, we are committed to anti-racist practice. This is core to our therapeutic work and training.
