Breaking the Silence, a Meridian Centre Project, receives funds to work with male survivors from racialised communities. We use these funds responsibly, with checks and balances in place to ensure we spend the money as intended and specifically for the purpose of supporting male survivors from racialised communities..
Our finance officer separates or ‘ringfences’ all funds for Breaking the Silence into their own specific ‘pot’. The Board of Trustees and the Managing Director monitor this pot regularly to ensure we keep to the amounts we have fundraised. The also monitor and supervise the contract to ensure we meet the targets for which the funding is designated.
Imran Manzoor is responsible for managing this pot; he does this in collaboration with the Umeed Advisory Group, ensuring we are accountable to those we intend to benefit.
Breaking the Silence funds contribute to the upkeep of the Meridian Centre, including contributions for heating and lighting. All of this, including the amounts spent on specific things, is agreed with the funder before we receive the funding. We then report back to the funder annually on how we have spent the money.
This process is intensely managed as any misspent funds can be reclaimed by the funder; if we don’t spend the money the funder can ask for the underspend back!
